Samsung unveils Galaxy AI, a new mobile AI experience that includes ‘AI Live Translate Call’ feature

Samsung today announced upcoming plans for Galaxy AI, a new comprehensive mobile AI experience designed to “empower everyone, everywhere” through enhanced communication, productivity, and creativity features.

According to the press release, Galaxy AI will leverage both on-device AI developed by Samsung as well as cloud-based AI-enabled through collaborations with industry partners. It aims to provide new AI capabilities while maintaining privacy and security.

One example highlighted is a new AI Live Translate Call feature that will offer real-time audio and text translations during phone calls with someone speaking another language. This feature eliminates the need for third-party translation apps by integrating directly into the native calling function. Samsung says translations will happen directly on the device to protect privacy.

Beyond translations, Samsung was vague about other features Galaxy AI could enable. The press release simply hinted at reducing barriers in communication, simplifying productivity, and enabling creativity in “all the places it matters most.” It seems we’ll have to wait for more details on how exactly AI will enhance productivity and creativity through Samsung devices.

Wonjoon Choi, EVP and Head of R&D for Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, called Galaxy AI a “comprehensive intelligence offering” that will “change how we think about our phones forever.”

Samsung previously also unveiled Gauss — the company’s own large language model that can write emails, generate summaries, create images, and more. This one’s limited to internal use only, although Samsung does say it plans on releasing it for Galaxy phones as well.
