Intelsat and AMN Link 8M in Rural Zones with Satellites

Networks (AMN), has made significant strides in enhancing telecommunication services across Africa. They have installed over 3,000 rural satellite base antennas, positively impacting over 8 million people with new telecommunication services.

AMN, a group of companies specializing in building, owning, operating, and maintaining mobile network infrastructure, plays a vital role in this venture. Their largest network is in Nigeria, with more than 1,350 sites. This network has increased, adding over 450 locations since June 2023 alone. As a result, more than 3.5 million people in Nigerian communities who previously had no connectivity now have access to phone and internet services.

Jean Philippe Gillet, Intelsat’s Senior Vice President of Global Sales for Networks and Media, underscored the significance of their commitment to reducing the digital divide in Africa. He highlighted the impact of their efforts and shared their vision with AMN to create a lasting impact on Africa’s digital infrastructure. The partnership is set to grow, with plans to extend operations to Madagascar, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). AMN plans to build over 1,340 rural base stations in these new markets.

This successful collaboration combines Intelsat’s extensive multi-satellite coverage across Africa with AMN’s innovative solar-powered tower solution. This unique approach has allowed them to bring telecommunication services to even the most remote communities, offering educational, social, and economic benefits to underserved areas. AMN’s focus on connecting communities and reducing initial and ongoing equipment costs has made extending cell services to unreachable places feasible.

Mike Darcy, CEO of AMN, praised Intelsat’s critical role in their joint efforts. Their strategic partnership has been pivotal in providing essential telecommunication services to millions across Africa, with plans for continued expansion.
