Cyberattack On Pakistani UN Mission Accounts, Email And YouTube Channel Hacked.

Hackers have attacked the accounts of the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations (UN), compromising both the official email account and YouTube channel.

The break-in occurred on Friday evening and targeted the email ID used by the information department.

Sources revealed that the mission’s YouTube channel was also compromised and its name, banners and content were changed.

The attack took place on June 14 at 4 p.m. US time. The Pakistani mission asked that all emails and videos be ignored until they regained control of their accounts.

On May 13, Pakistan underlined the need for a permanent cyber capacity building mechanism under the auspices of the UN, particularly to bridge the gap between developing and developed countries and promote trust and cooperation among states.

“International cooperation on capacity building on an equal footing is a key measure for a safe, secure, stable and peaceful ICT (information and communications technology) environment,” said Ambassador Munir Akram at the Global Roundtable on ICT Security Capacity Building.
