Apple Working On New Chip, Bigger Display And Better Cameras For IPhone 16 Series.

The year 2024 began with big announcements and a lineup of new-generation flagship releases. Many major smartphone manufacturers, from Vivo to OnePlus, are launching their new flagships. Samsung even released its new Galaxy S24 series, now making all eyes curious to see what its competitor Apple will do next. After the iPhone 15 series, which Apple launched last year, the new gen iPhones, i.e, the iPhone 16 lineup is expected to bring some significant upgrades, such as bigger screens, better cameras, faster processors, new buttons and AI enhancements.

Let’s take a look at everything being speculated and expected from the iPhone 16 models.

iPhone 16 display enhancements

One of the most noticeable changes that the iPhone 16 series is expected to bring is in display size for the Pro models. The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to feature a 6.3-inch display, up from 6.1 inches in the iPhone 15 Pro, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to have a 6.9-inch display, up from 6.7 inches in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This will make the iPhone 16 Pro models the largest iPhones ever, and also give them a new aspect ratio of 16.6:9, compared to the current 19.5:9.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, on the other hand, is said to retain the same display sizes as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which are 5.4 inches and 6.1 inches, respectively. However, they may also get some display upgrades, such as ProMotion support, which enables adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and gaming. ProMotion was previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models.

iPhone 16 storage upgrade

The iPhone 16 series may offer the same storage options as the iPhone 15 series, which are 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, and 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, some analysts predict that Apple is planning to increase the base storage to 128GB for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, and to 256GB for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, to match the increasing demand for more storage space.

iPhone 16 camera improvements

As for the camera, reports suggest that the iPhone 16 series will likely feature some camera improvements, such as better zoom capabilities, enhanced low-light performance, and spatial video recording. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have triple-lens camera systems, with a wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide-angle lens. The telephoto lens may offer up to 10x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom, thanks to a periscope design that uses mirrors to extend the focal length. The ultra-wide-angle lens may also have autofocus and macro capabilities, for sharper and closer shots.

For the base variants– The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will have dual-lens camera systems, with a wide-angle lens and an ultra-wide-angle lens. The ultra-wide-angle lens may also have autofocus and macro capabilities, similar to the Pro models.

All four models of iPhone 16 are expected to have a 12-megapixel front-facing camera, with a new feature called Face ID 2.0, which will enable faster and more accurate facial recognition, even in low-light conditions or with masks on.

3D recording for Vision Pro headset

Meanwhile, one of the most speculated features that Apple is said to introduce with the iPhone 16 series is the spatial video recording, which will allow users to capture immersive 3D videos that can be viewed on the Vision Pro headset, Apple’s rumoured augmented reality device. The spatial video recording will use the vertically aligned rear camera, which will also enable better depth sensing and portrait mode effects. The spatial video recording will be available on all four models, but the Pro models may have higher resolution and frame rate options.

iPhone 16 design change with new buttons

All the iPhone 16 models are said to feature an Action Button, which are currently limited to the iPhone 15 Pro models. The Action Button is a customizable button that can be used to launch apps, control settings, or perform actions, such as taking screenshots or activating Siri.

Along with the Action Button, the iPhone 16 models are also said to include a new Capture Button, which will be located on the right side of the device, below the power button. The Capture Button will be used to quickly start and stop video recording, without having to switch modes or tap on the screen. The Capture Button will also have a long-press function, which will enable users to record slow-motion or time-lapse videos.

Wireless charging

According to rumours, the iPhone 16 lineup will feature a stacked battery technology will increase the power and longevity of the devices. The new battery will also enable quicker charging speeds, both with a cable and wirelessly. A photo of what is claimed to be the iPhone 16 Pro battery surfaced online last month, showing a different shape, a modified plug, and a 3355mAh rating.
