In consonance with its aim to empower the next generation of technology leaders in Africa, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AmaliTech Ghana Limited, Martin Hecker, has emphasised that his company will continue to equip its tech talent with the requisite skill set and knowledge that enables them to compete effectively in the information technology (IT) space on the international level.
He added that his outfit will continue to collaborate with its local and global client base to deliver world-class IT solutions.
According to him, Africa is blessed with many young, talented individuals who – given the needed support – can rise to become global icons and escape the scourge of poverty that has rendered many of the continent’s youth hopeless.
Being a tech company that prioritises talent development, he assured that it is eager to provide the necessary help for young talents coming out of school with the passion and drive to build their careers.
“Young talents coming out of school with the passion and drive to build their careers with AmaliTech without going to university are welcome. Ghana has a lot of talented youth among its population, and we are here to provide them with opportunities to thrive and realise their dreams.
“AmaliTech is particularly focused on talents at primary and secondary school levels with the right mind and skills in terms of intellect and way of thinking, but who do not have a chance to go to university,” he elaborated.
Pertaining to this, he said the company will develop programmes to get pupils coming out of school into the tech space over the next 6 years.
Hecker said this during the company’s official opening of an expanded office in Accra. The new ultra-modern edifice comes with meeting rooms, workspace for front-end and back-end software developers, washrooms, a reception room and much more.
“The opening of this office is just one step in a long chain of oncoming steps. Soon, another one will be opened in Kumasi to serve the needs of people there,” he further hinted.
He also indicated that the company will be partnering Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide information technology (IT) training to thousands of Ghanaians in the coming years.
“10 days ago, I participated in an AWS Tech conference in Las Vegas – where we agreed to train several thousands of Ghanaians in IT over the next 6 years. So, AWS will also soon become a major tech capability provider here in Ghana,” he added.
While aiming to quadruple in size with respect to pupils and capability, he noted that the company is looking to expand its office space to accommodate more students in the future.
He added that it will do its best to get the trainees into basic careers and well-paid jobs to enable them live their dreams.
Deputy CEO-Ghana FreeZones Authority, Mrs. Kate Abbeo Djankwei, in her address at the ceremony commended the IT company for being a pacesetter in skills development and enhancement initiatives in the country.
“We have partnered Amalitech since 2022 when they were issued with a FreeZone licence, and we will continue collaborating with them to court more tech-oriented companies to operate in Ghana,” she added.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Team Lead, Ms. Lois Young, in her remarks noted that the company’s contribution to the country’s environmental, social and economic development cannot be overemphasised.
With regard to this, she said it has been focusing primarily on providing free digital skills training to kids, teens, youth, women and persons with disability since its inception in 2019.
“Our aim is to develop the kids’ critical thinking skills and build them to be problem-solvers while preparing the youth for their future of work.”
She furthermore indicated that the company has enrolled about 1,500 children and trained them in IT courses, and is looking at training about 1,000 more in the coming year.
“We need to give the children early exposure, and that is why we are collaborating with Germany to make this happen. These children are going to be very instrumental in developing software and providing IT solutions for the globe in the near-future,” she added.
Being a company that prioritises inclusiveness, she indicated that it has put in place initiatives to get more persons with disability (PWDs) and women into IT.
“We all know that women and PWDs have a lot of potentials, but unfortunately only a few of them can be found in the space,” she elaborated.
Against this backdrop, she noted that the company is looking forward to partnering with organisations that share in its goals and vision to create more opportunities for children, women and PWDs.
AmaliTech’s mission is to bridge Europe’s need for ICT experts with Africa’s need for sustainable jobs.
